The next Porsche to use a plug-in hybrid powertrain will be the Macan according to a report by Australian website Motoring.

Porsche is reportedly fitting an evolution of the powertrain it uses in the Panamera S e-Hybrid into its compact crossover with a combined total output of 410 horsepower and 435 lb-ft. of torque that will be directed to all four wheels. It is supposed to be able to travel purely on electricity for up to 20 miles or for longer distances with both the electric motor and 3.0-liter V6 working under light acceleration.

Our source at Porsche said there aren’t currently any plans for a plug-in hybrid version of the Macan.

Don’t be surprised if the Macan line ends up growing to be close to if not matching the Cayenne in model diversity. The company is in the middle of launching a facelifted version of the Cayenne that currently includes a diesel, S, Turbo and e-Hybrid version in the U.S. In the past there has also been a more performance focused GTS version of the Caynne as well.
