Nick Diaz arrested on suspicion of DUI ahead of UFC 183 'super fight' against Anderson Silva

USA TODAY Sports

Big news in the 209.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight (and soon to be middleweight) Nick Diaz is in trouble with the law following his arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) -- among other things -- earlier this week in Lodi, California.

See his epic mugshot here.

Diaz, who announced his return to mixed martial arts (MMA) just last month, was picked up in the wee hours of Sept. 6, 2014, and in addition to his DUI charge, was also booked for obstructing a police officer, destroying evidence, and driving with a suspended license, according to Lodi News.

Maybe that 40-year-old soccer mom ratted him out?

Arresting officer Sergeant Steve Maynard told MMA Fight Corner that once Diaz was in custody, he attempted to vomit up the evidence before taking a breathalyzer test. He was released from the Lodi City Jail later that day and is expected to be arraigned within the next few weeks.

If there is a Silva silver lining to this cloud, it's that Diaz (26-9) isn't scheduled to fight until next January in Las Vegas, where he's slotted for the UFC 183 pay-per-view (PPV) main event against Anderson Silva (details), who required advanced notice as he rehabs from a broken leg.

Card subject to change!

Depending on how all this shakes out, there is a reasonable chance the former Strikeforce 170-pound kingpin will be able to compete as scheduled. UFC has issued a statement (read it here) and you can expect to hear a follow-up from UFC President Dana White within the next day or two.

If not sooner.
